SIJHL January Players of the Month

Forward of the Month – Edison Weeks, Thunder Bay North Stars

The league’s leading scorer has done it again as Edison Weeks is Forward of the Month for the 2nd time this season. Weeks first won the award in November but 19 points in 9 games played was good enough to earn it in January as well. Of his 19 points, 9 came from goals and the other 10 were assists.  Weeks scored in all but one game this month and scored at least 3 points on 4 separate occasions.

Defencemen of the Month – Gabe Tanton, Red Lake Miners

Finally someone has been able to win this award away from the blue line in Sioux Lookout. Tanton of Red Lake is the first non Bomber player to win the award all season. Tanton was a point per game player in the month with 2 goals and 5 assists. In the defensive zone Tanton and the Miners were very effective throughout January. In 6 of the 7 games Red Lake gave up 3 goals or less playing a majority of the time against top 3 competition.

Goalie of the Month – Matthew Spencer-Dahl, Sioux Lookout Bombers

In all honesty both Sioux Lookout goalies have had a very good argument to win the award but Spencer-Dahl had the slightest of edges. The 05 goaltender posted stellar numbers with a 1.62 goals against average and a .955 save percentage. Spencer-Dahl also posted back to back 40 save games against Kam River securing a win and a shootout loss. This is Spencer-Dahl’s 2nd time winning the award as he also brought it home in November.

Baker is the 2nd straight winner of Rookie of the Month for the Wisconsin Lumberjacks. Baker was something of a big game player for Wisconsin as he was on the scoresheet against their toughest opponents. Baker had 8 points in 7 games with most of his scoring coming against Kam River and Thunder Bay. The month of January was a tough one on the schedule Wisconsin, Baker helped to keep the team moving in the right direction.
